US referral program handbook · independent
A Starlink referral link pays both people, in different ways
The new customer gets a free month of service. The customer who shared the link gets $100 in credit or cash. Here is how each side works, the rules that decide it, and every change to those rules with a date.
The new customer
One month of service free
- What
- one free month of service on the eligible plan picked at sign-up
- When
- credited on the second monthly bill; month one is paid as normal
- Who
- Never had Starlink, US service address, orders on starlink.com through the link
- Asked to
- Stay subscribed at least 2 months (Starlink’s help center)
The person who shared the link
$100 reward, credit or cash
- What
- $100
- When
- rewards are issued as soon as 60 days after the friend activates
- Who
- customers on an active Residential or Roam plan, in good standing
- Paid as
- Service credit unless they switched to cash
One referral, start to finish
Read the steps as text
- Referrer: an existing customer shares the link from Referrals in their account.
- New customer: opens the link and orders on starlink.com with a US address; has never had Starlink; pays month one.
- New customer: the second monthly bill has one month of service free.
- Both: two full billing cycles pass on a high-speed plan (not Standby).
- Referrer: the reward is issued, as service credit unless they chose cash, as soon as 60 days after the new customer activated.
Full rules, including what makes a referral fail, are in how the referral program works. If you’re the one sharing, the payout timeline shows when your reward lands.
Four things that decide whether the link counts
- You’ve never had Starlink at any address. Returning customers don’t qualify.
- Your service address is in the US, the same country as the person whose link you use.
- You order on starlink.com after opening the link, on the same device. Store and second-hand kits never count.
- You plan to keep the service at least two months. Starlink’s help center asks for it, and the referral only counts for the sender after two full billing cycles on a high-speed plan.

Cash option for US referrers reported
News sites reported that US referrers can now take each reward as cash to a bank account instead of service credit. Credit stayed the default.
Date: Approximate: press reports say the change rolled out “around the week of August 21, 2026”. Starlink didn’t publish a date. Status: Press report.

Questions people ask
Is a referral link the same as a promo code?
No. A referral link is a personal web address from an existing customer’s account, and the terms say ordering through that link is the only way a referral counts. It gives the new customer one free month on their second bill; it isn’t a discount on the kit.
Does it matter whose link I use?
Not for you. Every US customer’s link gives the same free month, and your price is the same. The only difference is which customer may receive the referral reward.
Can I use a US link for an address in Canada or Mexico?
No. The terms require the new customer’s service address to be in the same country as the referrer’s. Use a link from a customer in your own country.
I already have Starlink. Where’s my link?
Under Referrals in the Starlink app, or at starlink.com/account/referrals when you’re signed in. The owner’s guide on this site walks through it and through choosing credit or cash.
